Unsightly Varicose Veins On Your Legs? 3 Tips To Help You

If you have varicose veins on your legs, these can be not only unsightly but can cause a lot of pain. This is especially true if you are up on your feet all day. Fortunately, there are things you can do to reduce your pain and to get the varicose veins off your legs, three of which are listed below:

Compression Therapy

If you do not want to have surgery, compression therapy is commonly used. Compression therapy works well because it improves the circulation in your legs. With this, you wear compression socks. You can purchase these socks at pharmacies. They come in a variety of styles and sizes.

One type of compression sock looks and feels like pantyhose. Another type is just like socks and can go above the knee or below the knee, depending on where you have varicose veins.  They also have more expensive compression socks at medical supply stores. You will get yours here if the doctor prescribes them to you. The staff at these stores will personally fit the socks for you.

How long you wear the socks depends on how bad your varicose veins are. Your doctor may ask you to wear them only at night, or they may want you to wear them all day.

These socks come in a variety of compressions, which means how tight they are on your legs. Ask your doctor what the right compression is for you to purchase.

With this therapy, the varicose veins will still be visible but not nearly as noticeable as they were before.  Your pain will also be greatly reduced.

Sclerotherapy Treatment

Sclerotherapy treatment is more invasive than compression therapy, but it is not surgery. With this, the doctor injects a type of solution directly into each vein. The doctor uses ultrasound to show them where each vein is. The solution used is much like foam and once injected it causes the blood to leave the vein. The treated veins will then collapse and completely disappear. If you have a lot of varicose veins, the doctor may not be able to treat them all in one visit.

Your doctor can give you this treatment in their office. This makes this treatment much less expensive. Even if there is no pain from the varicose veins, people often get this treatment for cosmetic purposes.

Vein Removal

If your varicose veins are causing you a lot of pain and you have a lot of them, surgery will be your best option.

Removing the vein is one surgical treatment. The doctor first performs vein litigation. This is cutting and tying off the varicose vein. The vein will then die, and the doctor will remove it from your leg.  To remove the vein the doctor makes two small incisions to allow them to have access to the vein, so they can pull it out. The doctor will go over aftercare with you.

You will have this procedure done in a hospital and will be put under anesthesia or given an epidural to make you numb from the waist down.

Your doctor can go over these options with you in much more detail, so you can decide what you would like to do. Contact your local varicose vein services for more information and assistance.
